Sharmini Tharmaratnam, multi-disciplinarian artist, installations, Kathak dance and Contemporary dance, known for Kathak Flamenco too. She shifted from Flamenco-Bharata Natyam fusions towards the Kathak-Flamenco shows and her Kathak solos, and nowadays Yoga and Contemporary dance techniques are introduced in her artistic line of work, often presented at Contemporary Dance festivals and Art scenes, Museums, etc., although still striving to improve her classical pure style of Kathak, (and even in the fusion work), it is a dialogue within her own different cultures and professional realizations, but with a deeply spiritual experience in which she will not forget her esthetic education... She composes Music and Choreographies which are valuable in both the worlds; the Orient as well as the Occident, the Traditional as well as the Modern. "In dialogue with the Gods and Goddesses, Devas and Deblas, she connects both Flamenco and Kathak with a simple hand gesture." Miguel Mora, El País, 2003 "Freedom and sentiments in the name of Art. Her light spinning in big contrast with the heavy weight of her ankle bells, music that transports us to heaven, but with steady rhythms of her feet..." Alma Cien, Flamenco magazine, 2003 "Indian World class", Drammen Tidende, 2005 “One of the most important aspects of Sharmini’s dance is that she has beautifully managed to retain the essence of both, Kathak and Flamenco.” Ipsitaa Panigrahi, Times of India 2009
