Shadja is a musical institute that trains students in the way of Hindustani Classical music. Named after the first swara of Indian music, the abode of musical learning was founded by seasoned Hindustani Classical artist Surmani Dattatreya Velankar, a student of the acclaimed Pt. Vinayak Torvi.
With a focus on the teaching and promotion of Classical music in Hindustani Vocal, Tabla, Harmonium and related arts like KalaKeerthans, the institute follows a gurukul system of teaching. Shadja strives to imbibe an interest in Classical music, Bhajans, Harikatha and Fine art in students.
With notable gurus including Sri Aditya Udupa, Sri Ajit Subrahmanian, Ms Vandya Bhatt, Sri Yogeesh Bhatt and Sri Vikas Naregal, the Institute has also produces a number of audio CDs and books on Classical music. Workshops, lectures, conferences are organized regularly by the organization. With its own library with tons of musical and bhakti books available, all in all this place provides a perfect environment for musical training.
